Students are introduced to American culture by watching a movie trailer in Spanish. They consider the global influence of American culture. Then they learn about various aspects of American culture, choosing one aspect and researching it to create a presentation. Finally, students predict the future cultural impacts of technology in the United States.

What do you like most about living in the United States? There’s a good chance that part of what you enjoy is American culture—movies, music, fashion, or art. In this experience you will take a look at the range of American culture and the influence that the diverse population has on it.

  • Describe the influence of American culture throughout the world.
  • Describe multiculturalism in the United States.

Post your answer

Discuss student responses. Guide them to see that the translation reveals that the movie appeals to an audience beyond just English-speakers. It also suggests that some American viewers will be speakers of Spanish. Ask students “What influence do you think American movies like Frozen have around the world?”
