Objectives
A traveler from another planet walks up to you one day. In its hand, it holds a picture—the same picture that’s shown above.
“Earthling,” the strange being asks, “what is this a picture of?” for there are no theaters or plays on its planet.What would you say to the traveler? Describe what this place is and what is happening in it.
The activity elicits students’ comprehension of the basic fact of what theater is—what kind of event occurs in a theater, with details such as what a play, a stage, actors, and an audience are. Clarify for students that they are not expected to know what play is being performed or where or when the theater is located.
