Overview In this experience, students locate the Southeast states on a U.S. map. Then they learn about the physical geography of the region, focusing on the climate, wetlands, and hurricanes. Next they learn about the human geography and explain the relationship between the spread of central air conditioning and the rise in the region’s population. Finally, they prepare a poster about one of the region’s states. Objectives

In this experience, you will learn about the Southeast region, which contains the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Below is an outline map of the continental states of the United States. Color as many of the fourteen states of the Southeast as you can. Label their names. Some of the states are small, so you may need to use leader lines to add the name to the side.
