Adapted Excerpt: First Charter of Virginia

The King of England gives permission for Sir Thomas Gates and his business associates to be known as the First Colony. They are allowed to begin their settlement and choose any location along the coast of Virginia or America that they find suitable. A council will be created within the colony to provide local leadership, and another council will be formed in England to oversee colonial affairs. The people living in the colony, including their children born there, are promised the same rights and freedoms as those born in England.
